With winter fast approaching what trousers/base layers do you recommend for staying warm in the UK?

A pair of them would be very handy for getting me up big hills these days...

It really depends how brand conscious you want to be and exactly what you intend to be doing.  Personally im happy enough with running bottomms under a pair of hand me down Bear Grylls branded craghoppers for winter walking.

How much do you want to pay, and how cold do your legs normally get?

Regatta do a nice 'soft shell' winter walking/mountaineering trouser in black which would certainly keep my legs warm in winter.

Decathlon sell Simond mountaineering trousers with inbuilt gaiters, removable braces, crampon patches and ventilation zips for next to nowt and I use these in winter.
