My niece is intending to walk on Kinder Scout this weekend.  It occurs to me that it might be closed due to the fire risk.

How would I fond out? - I have tried googling it and I have found this:

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/fire-severity-index/#?tab=map&a...

But nothing more useful.

Can anyone help?

No they're open. Just advise her to return with everything she leaves with, don't leave litter, don't use lighters or stoves etc.. be careful basically!

I am almost certain that Kinder will not be closed, as the fire risk has to be very "exceptional" by the Met Office ratings, and this would not apply to footpaths, only open access land. The following link will help you confirm this I think:

In reply to BigHairyIan:

Kinder Scout is mostly open-access land under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act. The place to find out about closures is the Natural England website (naturalengland.org.uk).

A quick search gives this page:

http://www.openaccess.naturalengland.org.uk/wps/portal/oasys/maps/MapSearch...

which shows no closures at present.

As stated the fire risk needs to be Exceptional for closures to happen. You can find the current level at https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/fire-severity-index

In reply to BigHairyIan: CROW land on Kinder is open - a lot of it is accessible by ROWs in any event it’s likely she might even see some proper rain this weekend!

In reply to BigHairyIan: no problem at all with access, it’s basically don’t do anything which might cause a chance of any fire. I’m a member of a Peak District MR team, work as a casual for the Moors for the Future Partnership, and volunteer with the RSPB  looking after the Dove Stones area. Get out, enjoy the area and if you do see a fire use 999.
