Looking for pub type accommodation in the Lakes, Yorkshire or Peak District for two or three nights. MUST have atmosphere, no loud pop music and handy for the hills.

Suggestions welcome please.

Budget?? That’s a biiiiig area. As a middle aged, middle class cliche, I start with a copy of the Good Pub Guide and go from there

an obvious  starter is the Britannia at Elterwater.

The wild boar near Windermere is nice if you want to impress Mrs Pyrex.  The Boot Inn Eskdale used to be ok, not been there in ages.

I’ve just been up the lakes for a week although I’m self catering. As a pub I would recommend The George in Keswick. The food was excellent especially the Cow Pie. I can’t imagine that the rooms are bad given it’s popularity.

If that doesn’t suit, then the Coledale Inn at Braiyhwaite near Keswick is good. Good bar, good meals well priced. The rooms were fine too as long as you’re not after 5 star. You can walk the Coledale Horshoe from the door. Lots of snow about at the minute.

Either way, it’s nice, maybe they will have a special offer on?

Don’t dismiss the Old Dungeon Ghyll  Hotel in Great Langdale near Ambleside either.
