It's my favourite coastal view but can you get to the beach? There's a zigzag path marked down to the beach in it's SW corner but does it still exist? Many of these paths are not viable any more and not restored if they're washed away at the beach.

I was there doing a bit of sea kayaking back in August and would've liked to have landed on that beach but couldn't approach too closely as there were already a few seal pups on there and I didn't want to risk disturbing them.

I have a photo here taken from the southern tip of Ynys Melyn looking back to the youth hostel - I think if it's there, the path should be hidden in this photo somewhere.

Perhaps there's a scramble down the back of one of those gullies, or perhaps there was once a path cut into the cliff that is long gone.  Doesn't look too promising.

Here's another pic of a few steps and a couple of bits of handrail that seem to be all that remains of a staircase that used to go down to the water's edge, if I remember right this is a couple of hundred meters or so to the West of the Northern end of the beach.  (So definitely isn't related to the path shown zig-zagging down to that beach on the OS map.)

Great informative answer thanks. I think the OS path may only have been to serve the quarried area visible as a large area of scree in your photo. You can see the first zig zag in your photo and from the viewpoint near the road. Looks like this doesn't go to the beach. Those steps in your second photo are quite amazing, surrounded by choss ,hard to imagine they were ever a way down.
