Is there a company who will take old down jackets and reuse the down? It feels like something which shouldn't be binned.

Patagonia also do something similar but can't find a link at the moment.

Wear it(I'm not being fascetious)? Give it to a friend as a winter dog walking jacket? Yet you've probably thought of all these. Has it lost something of its loft/insulation? Otherwise look at the other recommendation of handing to Alpkit.

It was on the brink of retirement, and I was debating whether it was repairable for a bit longer.

We have a new rescue dog who can stretch her paw remarkably far out of the bottom gap in the crate in the van. She reached the jacket and pulled it into the crate, which ripped it beyond all possibility of repair!

So, that was the fate of the jacket decided for me! Thanks hound! (She is a truly lovely dog, but we are her 4th home and she is a year old. There is still a lot of unsettled behaviour which we are working through!)

If you live anywhere near the Rab factory shop in Alfreton, they have a down bin for recycling down products where they wash the down and reuse it. It was there a few weeks back still and I'm not sure if it gives you a discount when buying a new one, not totally sure on that.

Mountaineering Designs have a "donate a bag" service where they refurbish old sleeping bags and donate them to youth groups.  I don't know if they could do this with a jacket, but the down itself might be salvageable.

I took advantage of lockdown to have them refurbish a 40-year old down bag for me, it should now see me out!
