Lantern for a family tent

The lantern we were using has gone kaput, so it's gone in the recyling.

I like the look of the Alpkit Bob, especially that when you hang it up, it's upside-down and you don't get the dark area directly under it. It also has different light settings, but not so sure the max 200 lumens is quite enough.

Any recommendations for something similar with a bit more power that'll last, please?

I just need it to be a light - not dual function speaker or phone charger, etc. I don't really want a work light from Screwfix, or something, either

I got a couple of these from Go Outdoors - cheap and cheerful and bright enough for reading and cooking in big tent https://www.eurohike.co.uk/292607/292607-eh-3-led-hang-light

Think they were about £2.50...

A bit pricier but I really recommend the Fenix CL26R

or failing that the Black Diamond ReMoji is great too (albeit not quite as bright)

I got a Vango Star for £20 ish... seems to work fine quite powerful, a few settings, decent hook for hanging from roof. Charges via USB. Be interesting to see how long the rechargable battery lasts before it gives up the ghost...

I bought one of these

for use in our cellar where we have no electricty supply, works well there & I'm sure itwould be good in a tent

Collapsible solar lanterns are pretty good. We reviewed some Luci lights a couple of years back, and there are probably several other brands on the market by now https://www.ukhillwalking.com/gear/camping/lighting/luci_inflatable_solar_p...

Not sure of the power but I recently bought a little camping light in Aldi, has a nice diffused light on the bottom and there's a little ultra violet light and bug zapper on the top. Think it was just under £15.

Pretty sure this is not what you're looking for - but I have a couple of these and they are great : https://www.petromax.de/en/px-produkte/petromax-paraffin-lamp-hk500/

They last as long as yo keep putting paraffin in them.

Only really used in the big family canvas tents though.

Definitely not what I'm looking for - I've already got similar, but just not suitable.

Good for keeping warm in the winter though. Not ideal for modern tents or families.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Wandered down to our local annual camping exhibition yesterday and came away with a Zempire Megadome V2 at a bargain price: https://www.zempire.co.uk/megadome-v2

500 lumens at max and, when you turn it off, it has a residual glow as a nightlight.

Rechargeable battery is my only concern, but should last a weekend and will take a power bank for reserve.

They also do a smaller version, the Hangdome, for hike tents.

Our Scout Group has a few of these.  They take D cell batteries but we only replace them about once a year.  They are extremely robust too.

Not that cheap but very good.  You can probably find them cheaper if you shop around - the brand isn't important as long as they look exactly like that - it seems to be a Chinese design which is rebranded by a number of companies.

Bought one of these for family camping. Works really well and gave us 9 nights light from a single charge on a recent trip. Safe and bright - just a bit expensive !
