Big Agnes Tents

Does anyone have any experience with Big Agnes tents? I had a look at them at Outdoor and they seemed well designed and light. Having checked the prices online, you seem to get quite a light tent ((i.e a ~1kg 2 man) with good “liveable” space for not crazy amounts of cash.

So, I can’t help feeling there’s a catch. Is there something I’m missing?

I've had a Seed House SL2 since 2017, and have been incredibly happy with it in all conditions, and until this year it was my only tent. No catch - but then £300 is still a reasonable amount of money for a three season tent!

Had an SL2 as above for years. Excellent for 2 persons, cycle touring or multi-day hiking. Vestibule a bit small for two rucksacks. Heavy rain will drip in when you have to open the fly for access. But otherwise excellent.

Got a Fly Creek Platinum 1 person bought in NZ in emergency which is outstanding if a little delicate.

I use a Big Agnes Scout Plus for wild camping and love it; very quick to pitch and decamp. I haven't used it enough to comment on durability but it's showing no signs of wear and tear thus far.

Love that you can sit up in it (I'm 6ft 1") but the size/volume is a drawback in the cold, coupled with the excellent ventilation it can get chilly – but then I also have an ultralight sleeping bag so... just something to be aware of if you opt for the single skin tents.

£300 is a lot of money but for a decent sized 2 man tent at ~1kg to 1.5kg before finding Big Agnes it was looking like £500+!

Yeah, that seems like quite a good price for rather specialist kit - 1 kg for a two man tent is exceptionally light isn't it?

They've been a brand I've seen around for ages but I'm not sure if they've ever had stable distribution in the UK, it seems only a few specialist shops stock them.

Ultralight Outdoor Gear has a big range, and I've always been really impressed with them as a web shop - the website works very well in terms of sorting things by weight and giving their own opinions on products, and buying from has been super smooth on a couple of occasions.

I picked up a Fly Creek HV UL 1 off SportPursuit last year. Have been really impressed with it so far. Super light and really well designed. Would recommend them.

I've had a Seedhouse SL2 for over 10 years,  Great tents.  They have really steep sides so the interior seems really roomy even though the footprint is quite small.
The flysheet doesn't stretch right down to the ground so wind can whip through the tent.
But I've used it in Ecuador, Bolivia, Patagonia, Scotland and the Lake District.  Yet to let me down.

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like they are moving to the top of the list.....

The girlfriend's brother has one and rates it highly. I think he bought it while in the US. He did have an issue with it, can't recall exactly what it was, maybe flysheet related. He had to send it back to them and they replaced it free of charge.
