My partner and I have a place booked in the Almageller Hut for Saturday night with the intention of doing the Weissmies Traverse on Sunday, descending to Hohsaas to climb the Lagginhorn (via the WSW ridge) on Monday.

However, I am slightly concerned by the fact that the weather is forecast to be very warm for Sunday and Monday. I have also noticed that some guiding companies now choose to descend back down the SW ridge of the Weissmies to avoid the crevassed glacier on the normal route.

Does anyone have any information on the current state of the Trift Glacier?

Thanks in advance,

Aoife

In reply to astrahan:

We're also out at the moment and the weather looks very warm for the weekend, and into next week. Went to the guide station in Saas Fee a few days ago and they said that the glacier seems active at the moment. From Hohsaas they've dug a trench up the SW ridge to mark the safest path.

We're looking at an early start up and down from Hohsaas, partly because a long walk to Almageller in the rain sounds rubbish!
