Hi,

I'm travelling to Chile & Argentina in November and am hoping to climb at least one 5000m+ mountain while I'm there.

I'm having trouble finding insurance that will cover both this type of activity (as well as general travel insurance stuff) with my pre-existing medical condition (PEMC). The PEMC is non-serious (just check yearly/monitored) and I've been cleared to go to altitude.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I could find somewhere that might do this?

Thanks in advance!

It's a pita but worth phoning round different insurers and not getting scared off by the first quote. I have had everything from 4* the standard premium and still refusing to cover anything even vaguely related, to no extra charge.

Edit - if you're happy doing so giving details of the condition might help others recommend someone they have previously used.

Thanks for the advice, have you found any particular provider better or worse? Its an underlying benign kidney condition.

As in 'you've phoned them up to discuss it and they've turned you down', or 'their website says they won't cover them'?

Check Snowcard, their approach to PEMC seems more pragmatic than other insurers

It's a PITA but you need to just phone up and ask to be put through to someone who can assess you. My issues are a congenital heart complaint for which I had corrective surgery (so have to tick previous heart surgery, which tends to freak insurers out).

Bizarrely specialist diving insurance (where my condition possess a serious risk of bends) is no problem as the surgery is understood with the community and its accepted that now I'm fixed I have less risk than the average population.
