Jean Michel Cambon, probably best known to UKC as the writer of the 'Oisans Nouveau, Oisans Sauvage' guidbooks to the Ecrins, has died. I did a search and couldn't see that anything had been posted on here, mods please delete this if I've missed anything.

Anyone who has climbed around Ailefroide will know the name; he put up many (an incredible number) of the routes around there. His guidebooks are quirky, full of character and very good...once you have adapted to his system!

Very sad, I only met him the once but he was very friendly & gave us a lift down the valley to our car saving us a long walk.

Oh no.  We spend a lot of time in his region and love his books.  So full of life.  As they will forever be.

Sad. I'm sure I've done an awful lot of his routes. Always fancied Ranxerox but never got round to it.

So sad.  I have read, used and and enjoyed his guidebook to Ailefroide over several years.

From his writing, a real character.   All who climb in the area have much to thank him for.

Sympathy to his wife and family
