Ok this is my first time posting in one of these forums, but I was wondering if anyone has climbed mt Elbrus recently? I am considering going over this year but unsure of the terrains. There is a non essential travel warning out in that area at the min. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions or experiences?

There's been a non essential travel warning our for as long as I can remember, Safer now than it was back in 2011 when the area was closed to Foreigners. But these days Hundreds of UK and many hundreds of non Russians climb Elbrus every year, 90% from South side! Most Westerner go with Western companies who are in Partnership with Local companies who do most of the work etc, You can book with Most of the Local companies direct if you wish, but it likely means you won't have Package Tour insurance if they let you down, Which to be fair is unlikely! I wasn't there last year but have been there every year since 2007! Its a great place enjoy your trip!

I would second the Pilgrim Tours suggestion. They'll get you there and back safely without too much interference from local police seeking bribes etc.
