I’m going to be in the Morzine area later this month for some MTB and was wondering if there are any mountaineering routes nearby? I couldn’t see much on Google, is there anything in the area worth trying other than the via Ferrata? We will have a car so will be able to move around. Alternatively any kind of scrambling style routes would be good to do.
Not sure if it’s worth bribing the crampons and boots 🤔

I seem to remember a huge easy slab just near Morzine. have got rid of those guides now so not certain of its name.

Inspected it from a distance, and it was running with water from snow melt above. Got on it a couple of years later but was rather late and lost the route, abseiled off.

I would say crampons and an axe may be over kill, most of the stuff in the Chablais is 2500m and it's been a very dry year in terms of snow.

It's one valley over, but I had a great time on the Traversee des Aretes (AD- 3).

There is a super comprehensive topo for that area here: http://www.chablais-grimpe.com/index.php. Had a quick look and there's also some stuff on Camptocamp > topoguide > routes > filter on map extent (https://www.camptocamp.org/routes?act=mountain_climbing,rock_climbing&b...)

I have done a bit of digging and the big slab route I was talking about is called 'La Morzinoise'

I have also done 'Traversee  des Aretes' a worthwhile day out.
