Hi All,

Heading out with very loose plans to the Alps late August-mid September and hoping to do some long/high routes. Given routes will likely be lean and glaciers may be impassable we know we are going to be limited to rock routes, if we get the weather that is. Our plan was to head to the Swiss alps, does anyone have recommendations for peaks/routes up to D+ that would be doable? Alternative suggestions for location where we would be better off are welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Ober Gabelhorn WSW Ridge (Arbengrat), Zinalrothorn N Ridge, Salbitschijen S Ridge, Piz Badile N Ridge (the theme here being 3 star ridges primarily/exclusively on rock..)

With the conditions this year there is a good chance that many of the big mountains will be in good shape late season. Especially the Swiss mountains.

You could add Weisshorn, Lenzspitze, Nadelhorn, Lagginhorn, Weissmies N Ridge, Dent Blanche and, of course, the Matterhorn to the above list.

Also, the big snow ridges might be good as well. For example, I did the Liskamm traverse early Sept last year and it was in perfect condition.

Best to check local conditions at the time. There's no reason that glaciers in general are impassable late season.
