Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) will remain shut between 10pm to 8am from April 1, 2019 for the runway rehabilitation works. It is the same airport for the domestic operations too. Therefore, the morning flights to Lukla and other remote sectors will be affected from the closure.

Citing that Lukla is a major tourist destination for domestic airline companies, the TIA  authority has urged domestic airlines to conduct flights to Lukla from "Manthali Airport" of Ramechhap district, some 150 kilometers from Kathmandu. The Lukla airport is known as the weather permitting airport and it is best to operate flights in the morning only.

The government of Nepal has decided to upgrade the sole runway at TIA due to frequent cracks and other security issues. It is expected to complete the task within three months and resume flights as usual.
