Having looked at this again I think its the Adang route on sas ciampic length and difficulty seems right plus the chimney bit at the end , thanks for taking a look

I did that route last summer - I don't think that's a picture of it, but maybe the angle is throwing me?

Looks a bit like the south side of the Odla di Cisles and the Sass de Mesdi in the Odler/Geisler group.

If correct, the main peak in your photo would be the Mesdi. Its Southwest Ridge is IV and ten pitches in the 2005 AC guide, V- and thirteen pitches in the 1988 one; Dibona, Huter, Jahn, Eller - 1917. The later guide mentions a gap between the main face and a subsidiary pillar on its sixth pitch; could this be the location of your memorable step?

And it should be Odle/Geisler.

I'll eat my hat if that's Ciampac. To me that looks like the peaks to the south of val Gardena...

I'm pretty sure it's the Mesdi. That dark pillar with the 'face' on it low down in front of the main peak - the Kasnapoff Tower - is visible in both images [if the Google thing works].
