Never heard of him till I heard the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald on radio two. Wonderful. Played it through YouTube. What's his other stuff like?

"Alberta bound, Alberta bound, I long to be Alberta bound"

He's great if you like that sort of thing!

Sidenote on the Edmund Fitzgerald: I'd always assumed that the Edmund Fitzgerald referred to something that happened in the late 19th or early 20th centuries. It actually happened in 1975. The wreck has now been found and the explanation of the tragedy as described in the song has been pretty much corroborated.

The only Tom Paxton I know is:

A modern interpretation of that first world war football match, perhaps.

Always thought that version was way better than the original. Mary Travers looks like she's in a shampoo commercial!

Thanks for starting this thread, not listened to GL for about ten years so enjoyed cooking dinner to the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Sundown and If you could read my mind.

Out of interest what programme on R2 was playing GL?

Not sure, I didn't pay attention to that. But they were on about "epic" tracks if it helps.

Bob Dylan lists him among his 6 favourite singer-songwriters. Has covered at least one of his songs. His other favourites are John Prine, Guy Clark, Randy Newman, Warren Zevon [all great] and Jimmy Buffett. [Don't ask!]
