Have you listened to the original from 1974? Which do you prefer?

For me the original is miles ahead, I prefer the violin sound of David Cross for starters then there is the very distinctive voice of Wetton which gives real passion to the mood and Fripp is on fire throughout to make a lavish, tight, all round more flowing and immediate sound. Bruford is just Bruford, now they need three drummers to replace him although it would have been better if the Scots genius Jamie Muir was still playing with them then.

Here he is on Larks Tongue in Aspic from 73 in case you haven't seen it

I think Fripp described Wetton and Bruford as being like a “flying brick wall” when he played live with them. I’ve many friends into various sub genres of metal who also have copies of ‘Red’ and ‘Larks Tongues in Aspic’. Although I’m a big fan of Adrian Belew, and the Chapman Stick guys, it’s the Wetton Bruford era Crimson that really cuts it.
