I loved his playing. My older brother introduced me to Fleetwood Mac when I was about 9-10, and then I gradually introduced my friends over the next few years.
My brother sat next to him on a train from Manchester across to Leeds, and the nature of the man by that time was so sad. I was not aware that it was drug induced; I had just thought that it was in his genetic make up or similar. I was obviously too naive, and wanted to believe the best in him.
I agree with all, that going and playing some of his stuff is obligatory this weekend.
Without detracting from Peter Green's playing, I would say that Paul Kossoff played as alluring a tone of Les Paul on some of his songs with Free, and spin off bands, such as Kossoff, Kirk, Tetsu, and Rabbit. Yet it is Peter Green that I'll lament the passing of in the next weeks. Who'll there be around in the next few years. All the great music artists are dimishing in number.
