Arrangement of 'Island of Woods' by Liz Carrroll  vimeo.com/439977426

Arrangement of 'I Saw Three Ships'  vimeo.com/494265611

by David Hudon who did that beautiful 'One Grain of Sand' film that's here on UKC

One of my favourite acoustic players is Adrian Legg.

Definitely worth a listen if you’ve not heard of him.

Martin Simpson has a touch that is unparalleled in folkstyle finger picking in my opinion. His albums tend to have a mix of instrumental and sung pieces. He's been around for ever and has a great legacy across British, Irish and American folk music.

Maybe less traditional/folky and more "arty" than what you are after, but at least check out some of Nick Jonah Davis' stuff.

My current inspiration is Pierre Bensusan, an Algerian/French guitarist who specialises in DADGAD tuning, although not exclusively.

I saw Adrian Legg live at the Shaw Theatre near St Pancras Station during London Guitar Weekend in 1986. Also saw Stanley Jordan and Bireli Lagrene.

Cant discuss celtic fingerstyle guitar without mentioning Tony McManus!

In reply to Giles Davis:

He’s good live isn’t he?

Hadn’t even heard of him, but went to watch Satriani at the Manchester Apollo years ago.

About 40 mins before he came on this guy dressed in black came on stage with an acoustic guitar. I thought he was a guitar tech just doing a quick sound check.

Without a word, he sat down on a stool and just started playing. I, and suspect, most of the theatre, was blown away.

Turns out it was Mr Legg.

In reply to plyometrics:

Yes, at the gig I saw him at he was telling us stories about how he came up with the tune he was about to play as he was re-tuning etc (he played in open tunings like John Martin). Also had banjo style tuning pegs on his Ovation so he could ‘solo’ as he was finger picking. I’d love to watch him live again.

He's an interesting player. There's a whole sweep of guitar tappers if that's your taste - Andy McKee,

Eric Mongrain -  youtube.com/watch?v=AbndgwfG22k&

I've just discovered Christie Lenee whowon acoustic guitarist of the year last year:  youtube.com/watch?v=hWvfEYcGAOE&

The top man in my book is still Tommy Emmanuel :  youtube.com/watch?v=0cHeNscKZN0&

As you can see, I could go on, and on......!

Check out Tiny Island:

Swedish trio that put out a single album about ten years ago. One of them is a climber, which is how I found them. The album was apparently recorded in a single session in a medieval stone church with the three of them sitting around a single microphone.
