I'd never heard about Pirate Hawkins until I came across this song. I like how militant and to the point it is, and it made me find out something too.

A shame to think how Peter Tosh and the drummer Carlton Barrett (& dub musician King Tubby too) were all shot & killed by other people.

Peter Tosh was great.

Tosh was the best of the Wailers for me. Far more thought provoking than Marley's (albeit enjoyable) pop reggae, and with a nice rock edge compared to Bunny Wailer's more traditional roots style.

I regard Equal Rights as one of the best albums of the 20th century.

Some of Bob Marley's songs were quite conscience pricking I think, in speaking of poverty and oppression, and asking what the listener was doing about it. What Marley did was to give his songs a poppy vibe to draw people into enjoying listening to them, while the lyrics weren't always so cheery.

I'd probably agree that Peter Tosh was the more intelligent of the 2, though, and that this came through in his songs.
