Series about Anne Lister starts tonight on BBC.

Apart from her Lesbian existence Anne Lister(1791-1840) was also a mountaineer and, among other exploits, made the first "official" ascent of the Vignemale - the highest summit in the French Pyrenees - in 1838.

Looks a bit quirky in the trailers with plenty of fourth wall breaking stuff.

Must admit I've not seen the trailers

Very intrigued about Vignemale. I always assumed it would have been a Russell ascent but his were thirty years later.

Indeed, Russell was a mere toddler when Anne Lister made her ascent. There was also some legal action when the Prince de la Moskowa claimed the first ascent.

It was something to do with the guides' verification - or lack of - of Anne Lister's ascent.

The Fleabag influence looks very obvious! Wonder if mountaineering exploits will form any part of the plot? I probably would have watched anyway, but possibly more likely to, now I've learned that nugget

Does anyone know which route her ascent took? I'd always assumed that it followed today's "voie normale" up the Ossoue glacier but I've since deduced that it was via that which is named after the Prince de la Moskowa, from the Spanish side. I believe it's graded PD although having watched a video it looks more of a scramble - but I may be wrong.

Yup, I manage the first 10 minutes then it got too annoying

That's 5 minutes more than me.

I'm sticking with it for the time being. It's fun spotting the filming locations, and it can't be any worse than "The Widow".
