Impossible to resist.

A thread about BLM brought up this wonderful clip, here for the music rather than the chat this time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVJjmyFfuts&

Since it's not just me who loved the music, I thought I'd share a couple more clips while they come to mind:

And this classic which I've posted before but if you don't know it, you missed out 'til now:

Any more great jazz from the last few years to share?

Not really a jazz cat but it struck me recently that the Simpsons theme tune is really high quality free form jazz. Is there anything similar out there in the jazz universe?

My son plays multiple instruments in multiples styles, he put this piece together back in April this year, jazz-funk he calls it

Not from the last few years, 2003 in fact, but I've only recently discovered the Jazz Baltica concert with Pat Metheny and Michael Brecker (among others) and I'd hate for others to be missing out on this gem too.

For specifically jazz trumpet I've never heard a more beautiful sound than Silk by Rick Braun. Lie back and enjoy, it's the soundtrack of beautiful memories.

Edit-- for a more urban jazz fusion sound this takes some beating. Eastside by four80east.

Grreat, thanks. Loved the Weather Report quote at 7:05.

Would you know, is it de rigueur to wear headphones these days, even for the audience? (Funnily, I'm checking it out on some XM3s, so current with the zeitgeist, although mostly it's to cut out my kid thrashing the piano.)

Yeah! Great stuff, just what we need in times like these.

My claim to cool: I had Christmas dinner with the drummer from Gogo Penguin the year before last.

Cheers. You must know these guys (not current - dead, in fact).

I love this thread, thank you! The Christian Scott piece from NPR was outstanding. I am slowly working my way through the offerings here. I am a latecomer to enjoying jazz so I'm not much in the know with contemporary artists. I've been discovering the classics over the last few years, although have also had the pleasure of seeing Gogo Penguin (not for dinner, though!).

Anyway, I just wanted to show appreciation for the posts!

Not out & out jazz, but amazing harmonies & ideas. Went to see him in Manchester Feb last year. One of the best gigs I've been to.

Try Paul Towndrow for sax lead.
Both very good.

Very much recommend starting with 'We Out Here' from, I think, a couple of years ago. Shabaka Hutchings, Kokoroko, Ezra Collective etc. They even had a festival.

Just beat me to it!

Last one of the following ...

Very nice - I was just listening to Beasts of No Nation while doing some mind-numbing stuff (keeps my brain alive) and thought - what was that link?

Thanks
