OK this is probably too old for most to remember. It's a kids series about an eccentric, old, 11th century, sorcerer in the who occidentally travels through time to the 20th century. So it's very old, cheaply made but it has it's own charm, is pretty amusing and it's interesting to look back at TV of the past:

Season 1 and 2:

(each episode is about 25m)

I loved it. As a kid I lived abroad, so jumping from the tower of a Norman castle into the twentieth century always made total sense to me, as did any people living in the wrong era, e.g. the great scene of post-nuclear apocalypse glimpsed by that Victorian gentleman in the original film version of Wells's Time Machine. I never had a mate called Carrot, but there was once a Grapefruit.

Oh wow. Thank you for restoring a little slice of my childhood. I was eight in 1970...  These episodes are delightful and I must see if I can convert my children to them.

In reply to stp:

I still call it a tellingbone...

I loved Catweazle and still say electrickery now and again. At the time I devoured every Norman/Viking/Castle thing I could get my hands on. Henry Treece and R.C. Sherriff were my favourites, and then came Alfred Duggan.

I still have a battered copy of Catweazle and the Magic Zodiac.

i don't need to open the pages to recall the riddle:

"Twelve are they that circle round,

if power you seek they must be found,

then look for where the thirteenth lies,

and mount aloft the one who flies."
