Reading back on a few old posts, it seems Tintern Abbey has some parts that stay dry in the rain. Can anyone confirm this?

Any other little gems in the Wye Valley that can be climbed in crap weather?

Cheers

We climbed at Ban-Y-Gor on Saturday, was raining when we arrived but managed to get straight onto the first couple of buttresses without much problem although it was a little damp topping out.

I seem to recall that the right hand crag at Wyndcliff is drier that the left in the rain. Once the leaves are out on the trees at the top of the crag, this enhances the cover in light rain.

You definitely can't climb Tintern Abbey in the rain, and I wouldn't recommend the quarry either . Ban-y-gor (the escarpment) can be a good shout in summer when it's raining, and the main crag dries quite quickly too.

Just in case you weren't aware:

Tintern Abbey; it's a church.

I've done Howhard in the rain, it's directly underneath the Clifton suspension bridge. The bottom bit will get wet but the top half should stay dry, if you're lucky. It's quite gratifying to have a plan that works on a wet day

Thanks again for all the info.

Have you got a link to the bridge crag? Cannot seem to find it.

It is in the Avon guide.
