After going to  Smalldale Quarry last Tuesday and  Stoney West today there appear to be pairs of crows (? rooks? ravens?) going into the hole some way up Sock it to 'em (5c) at Smalldale, and the crack just left of Little Moose (6a+) (I think it's the line of Cave Crack HS) at Stoney W. Don't know if they are nesting there but as it was a pair in both cases it seemed possible, so we avoided both routes.

In reply to TobyA:

Corvids nesting in cracks is most likely to be jackdaws. Won't be ravens, they build large ramshackle nests that look like they should fall apart (but don't).

Rooks nest communally, usually in a group of trees. Don't know if carrion crows (the normal "crow") ever nest in cracks, but they normally also nest in trees.

Note that young jackdaws in a crack/nest will peck your fingers - anything that moves might be food 😁
