The annual restrictions to help protect nesting Peregrine Falcons have come into force (1/3/19) and will remain in place until 30/6/19 unless it is possible to lift individual restrictions at an earlier date. If you come across a nest site not covered by the restrictions please contact the FRCC (https://www.frcc.co.uk/comment-on-a-route/) and Rob Dyer at The BMC (robd@thebmc.co.uk).

Current restrictions can be viewed at:

In reply to Trevor Langhorne:

Is there any news on access to Riggindale since the sad demise of the eagle?

In reply to Presley Whippet:

Well there won't be anyone there to say "oy" etc. so physically it's open. But, there may be areas which shouldn't be disturbed; ravens, peregrines, etc.

Also, why would you need to go up the valley. Is it open access land?

In reply to Michael Hood:

There are a few esoteric routes listed in the guide aren't there, with a warning that they shouldn't be climbed due to the eagle?

In reply to Simon Caldwell:

I'd no idea there were some routes there. Most times I've been there I was looking for the eagle(s), so didn't look closely at the rock (with bins). I didn't get any impression of any large cliffs and if I remember correctly it looked very scrappy so maybe esoteric is the right word.

Bet any routes will need a bit of a clean

In reply to Presley Whippet:

Since the apparent demise of Eddie (the Eagle) Whelter crag is now open. For full details see pages 19-21 ofthe FRCC New Routes and Notes Supplement that was published last year. Needlesports and other main Lakes retailers should have copies. As the crag lies in a Nature Reserve (RSPB land if my memory is correct) access is subject to no gardening/new routes outside of the currently developed area.

In reply to Trevor Langhorne:

Thanks
