Government's attack on nature condemned (but not by the BMC)

So, the Government is proposing changes to a variety of existing laws, policies and funding regimes which threaten the natural environment and our access to it. The National Trust and the RSPB have reacted promptly and forcefully, with the latter even saying that direct action against Government policy should not be ruled out.

And you might think that these were also pretty important issues for just about every member of the BMC..... but so far, seemingly, not a murmur of protest from our 'representative body'

Could this silence be in any way related to the ever increasing dependence of the BMC on direct funding from Government?

And if the BMC apparatchiks are more concerned with protecting their salaried positions from a hostile Government than with acting in the interests of their members then maybe its about time we re-thought what we actually get for our subscriptions or whether we actually need or want the this sort of a BMC?

Could it be that the National Trust and RSPB are huge organisations with well developed and resourced policy and lobbying capabilities and the BMC is a small paid team and some volunteers.

I'm sure BMC comments on the latest environmental issues (reported by the RSPB etc) will be along soon... certainly a key issue on BMC access zoom discussions and at the specialist committee reports last weekend. Plus access stuff is already reported on multiple times...these are the most recent:

OK, I'm the stupid kid sitting at the back... I don't pay too much attention to news, not like I used to, got tired of it

Please can anyone proved a 1 paragraph explanation or link to a short article to describe what the government are messing up now 🤬.

Essentially... what's the problem people are upset about here?

The promised “bonfire of red tape”. Entirely predictably, much of the “red tape” going on the fire was there to protect nice things from being destroyed.

In short we don't know what the problem is yet because we haven't got a clue what the new government's policies will be in this area.  It seems  unlikely that there will be a bonfire of red tape rather than a theatrical switch from EU rules to "proper" sovereign British rules!

If I was feeling cynical I might suspect that the RSPB, National Trust et al are concerned that current proposals are more likely to deliver funding to the tenants who actually manage the land rather than their landlords.
