I'm moving to north of Glasgow in a month from the Lakes and want to keep up with the mountain biking without having to drive too far. What are the Campsie and Fintry hills like for biking? Any good routes to recommend? Any good routes in the Loch Lomond National Park? Looking for more technical than forest roads.

Some great trails round Aberfoyle and Strathyre. There's Comrie Croft which is a trail centre but a pretty rough and ready one so is actually much better as a result. You've got North Third (climbing nearby too) near Stirling, and there are trails off the top of Dumyat. I'd suggest downloading the trailforks app and having an explore. From Glasgow you're not a million miles from Dunkeld or Dunoon too. Dunoon is less steep but still technical, while Dunkeld is one of the best sets of real trails in the country.

Carron Valley on top of the Campsies is worth a visit. Nothing too technical (easy red difficulty) but a decent amount of purpose- built mtb trails on Forestry Commission land.

Dunno which side of Glasgow you're going to, but Glasgow MBC is really active and usually meets in milngavie, they'll know most the trails in the area, find them on Facebook.

mtbtrails.info has quite few good routes - Milngavie (Mugdock) and Arrochar are rather nice. Arran is certainly an enjoyable place to ride as well and can be done via train/ferry link.
