A friend has asked whether people cycle from Borrowdale to the south end of Thirlmere via Watendlath and Blea water, and how 'easy' that would be. I'm thinking not many people do, and there would be a fair bit of pushing involved. Would people agree or is it regularly cycled? Thanks. 

Not done it but imagine it would be more fun the other way. Short sharp climb then longer descent.

That's part of a route called borrowdale bash, only backwards.

You could in theory go up thirlmere forest plantations and tracks until it turned into a bike hike (push), to the top of the fells, then devise a line down to meet borrowdale bash and ride on to borrowdale itself. Not all of it is novice mtb terrain though. 

Ok thanks. It is a friend who has asked and he is definitely coming the other way, and I think will be put off by any mention of boggy ground or a bike hike! Hes a southerner.........

Not regularly cycled beyond Watendlath as most people head over to Rosthwaite as part of the Borrowdale Bash. It is very, very boggy around Blea Water even in the driest of conditions. The drop down to Thirlmere is drier but quite technical  in places.
