Garmin Edge 25 file

Picking up a garmin edge 25 tommrow for my bike..

I normally  use  plot a route for my mapping stuff as i find it much  better for cyclepaths then garmin connect.

However im bit confused as plot a route say to download  it as an .tcx however all  other sources say it need to be to be .fit file anyone  got one that  confirm  what one  i need to do. 

They also say to copy and paste  the file in to did but  my YouTube  research  says i should import the route in to Garmin  connect. 

Asking  now before  i mad really stressed out with it tommrow

It used to be you couldn't import into Garmin connect (a couple of years ago) so you had to copy and paste with the Garmin plugged into the computer! Now I would always import it into Garmin connect and then you can sync it to the edge using your phone and Bluetooth, way less faff!
