The seminar has been designed to help those considering going to the greater ranges for the first time or those wanting to top up their skills and knowledge. Come along, ask questions, learn from the experts and meet active mountaineers, including leading activist Nick Bullock.
The day will be split into two parts. The first part will be a series of workshops:
- Where to go
- How to organise trips
- How to source grants and sponsorship
- How to stay healthy
- How to deal with altitude and acclimatisation
- Lightweight gear
- How to use IT and Google Earth
- And more
The second part of the day will be a series of lectures by people who have recently been on trips and expeditions of interest – including Nick Bullock's lecture at 7.45pm that is guaranteed to be both awe inspiring and a just little bit scary.
The venue is the National Mountaineering Centre at Plas y Brenin in the heart of beautiful Snowdonia, North Wales.
B&B accommodation is available, for those who want it, at Plas y Brenin for £32.50 per night. There is also ample camping and other accommodation nearby.
Bookings are being taken through the Plas y Brenin website and are as follows:
Date: Saturday 12 January 2013

Although the day is specifically for those wanting to learn about expeditions to the Greater Range it will also raise money for BMC expedition grants. These enable young cash-strapped mountaineers to go on expedtiions. The day will also showcase what younger mountaineers are doing in these exciting times; as well as highlighting what the BMC does to support those wanting to go on small independent expeditions.
