UKClimbing Limited is looking for an Assistant Editor to join our small team starting towards the end of 2022.

The job is a full-time position, working from home or remote office, but with daily interaction with the rest of the UKC/UKH team. The successful applicant will be a good communicator, have excellent writing, editing and video presenting skills and an in-depth knowledge of climbing in a range of disciplines. They will be based in or able to travel to the Peak District for weekly video presenting, be capable of working independently and be self-motivated.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Working in close co-operation with the news editors on both UKClimbing and UKHillwalking.
  • Sourcing, investigating and writing news stories on a daily basis.
  • Laying-out, editing and sub-editing contributor articles and news stories.
  • Maintaining and managing our social media feeds (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube)
  • Presenting on camera in Ticklist, outdoor festival and trade show videos

Essential Qualifications or Attributes

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with supporting qualifications/experience and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of climbing and mountaineering in the UK and worldwide, and a sharp news sense for cutting-edge achievements (in boulder, sport, trad, winter, alpine, mountaineering and competitions) and outdoor-related current affairs 
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently from home.
  • Ability to work to short deadlines.

Useful Qualifications and Attributes - not essential but worth mentioning

  • Climbing photography skills
  • Experience of using CMS
  • Knowledge of the outdoor industry
  • Adobe Creative Suite Experience - Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects.
  • Publishing experience - online and/or print.
  • Video presenting experience
  • Experience of working in social media

Job Location

The job can be done from home, or home office. Ability to travel to the Peak District for weekly video work essential. The applicant must be based in the UK and have a car, current driving licence, and a passport.

Equipment

An up-to-date computer is required. Software will be provided where needed. Apple operating system is preferred although not essential.

Salary Range

£25,000 to £35,000 depending on experience.
