  • Access and Conservation Officer (England)

Location: BMC Office, Manchester.

Remuneration:  £32,500 per annum with excellent benefits.

Contract: This is a full-time, permanent role.

The British Mountaineering Council is seeking a high calibre individual to represent the interests of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers on access, conservation and environment matters across the country.

This important post has a broad remit which includes supporting a network of regional access volunteers; engaging with countryside bodies and landowners on access, conservation and land management issues; producing educational resources and media outputs promoting environmental good practice; supporting local conservation and habitat restoration projects, and; maintaining a record of agreements on our Regional Access Database (RAD).

The post requires a confident and articulate individual with strong interpersonal skills and experience in a relevant sector. Detailed knowledge of rock climbing, and issues facing the cliff and mountain environment are also a pre-requirement.

  • Land & Property Manager (Contractor position)

Location: BMC Office, Manchester.

Contract: Three years, estimated 100 days per year at £250 per day.

The British Mountaineering Council is seeking an experienced individual to oversee and manage our eight landholdings situated across the South East of England, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and Gwynedd. The sites are all heavily used by rock climbers and include disused quarries and natural escarpments in moorland, woodland and semi-urban settings.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced land manager with good administration skills and a knowledge of rock climbing activities and practices. They will be responsible for all aspects of property management including site management plans and risk assessments, managing contractors, monitoring fixed equipment, habitat restoration and species conservation initiatives and engagement with volunteer groups.
