Rockay's new collection is made from 100% recycled materials

A Danish sportswear brand Rockay launched a new, fully sustainable collection of performance socks. Living up to the company's mission of sustainable manufacturing and recycling, the product line is made from 100 percent recycled materials retrieved from the oceans.

Rockay is known for its carefully crafted and researched products; the new collection was launched only after several tests, improvements and product refinements. Besides 100 percent recycled materials, one of the core new features is the use of advanced Swedish technology called Polygiene that's added onto the yarn. This special treatment ensures the socks stay odor-free, which means washing less and saving water, energy, and money.

What Makes Rockay Unique?

Rockay wasn't created to be just another brand on the market. Its founder, Daniel Chabert Pfefferkorn, who's a passionate marathoner himself, wanted to not only create the best performance socks an athlete could imagine but to take part in the environmental movement.

Daniel traveled around the world and witnessed himself the disturbing amount of plastics that are polluting our oceans. At that point, he knew that his brand would do something different.

And it did.

Instead of harming the environment, he envisioned a brand that's going to help clean up the oceans and maintain a healthy ecosystem. All of Rockay's products are made from 100 percent recycled materials and ocean waste.

At first, Rockay used merino wool as the main material. However, in order to make its performance socks as durable as possible, and suit athletes' needs, the company switched to first-class 100 percent regenerated nylon yarn.

Through a partnership with ECONYL®, Rockay collects and recycles abandoned fishing nets and other ocean waste to produce high-tech sportswear. The retrieved fishing nets and ocean waste are then sent to a 'High-Tech' regeneration plant that produces 100 percent regenerated nylon yarn.

With such a careful manufacturing process, whoever chooses to wear Rockay socks also helps clean up the oceans and contributes to the global sustainability movement.

Key Features of Rockay's 100% Recycled Socks

After researching and analyzing current socks on the market, Rockay launched a new collection that incorporates some important key performance features, including:

  • seamless toes;
  • carefully positioned performance cushioning;
  • breathable mesh zones;
  • and special built-in arch compression support.

Rockay Calf Compression Sleeves are a special one in the collection. The compression increases blood flow, and thus, ensures better movement and performance, for longer runs, fewer injuries and faster recoveries.

Most athletes praise the environmental and odor-free characteristics, as well as the lifetime guarantee the brand offers.

Sustainable Sports Apparel is Our Future

Brands like Rockay should be recognized in today's society of fast fashion, overproduction, and overconsumption. We consume more than we need, and thus, cause more pollution, as well as water and energy scarcity.

"We see environmental pollution across all spheres of life, but that shouldn't discourage us in taking action. On the contrary, we should seek small steps we can make as individuals, families, businesses and as a society. We at Rockay are pleased to be part of the global sustainability movement," said Daniel Chbert Phefferkorn, Rockay's founder and CEO.

In terms of the upcoming plans for Rockay, Daniel also added that 2020 will be an exciting and challenging year for Rockay, as they plan to expand on their socks apparel and launch a full line of recycled sportswear.
