An outstanding opportunity exists for a Garment Technologist to join our expanding team and play a key role in the continuing development and expansion of our award-winning product range.

We are looking for an energetic, innovation minded, super organized person to lead the development of a range of product categories with a focus on insulated products.

Working with an assistant and in collaboration with the Design team you will create technical specs, work on in house proto/mock up development and liaise with suppliers to develop samples and production, from first idea development to arrival in store.

It is expected you will have outstanding attention to detail, great communication skills and a willingness to travel globally.

You should have at least 4 years experience working on performance apparel covering product categories such as fleece, softshell, taped or insulated garments.

Passion for the outdoors be it backpacking, climbing or mountaineering is very beneficial.

This is a full time position based at our head office in Greater Manchester (on the edge of the Peak). Salary is negotiable based on experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To set up and implement sealed sample procedures with suppliers from development through to bulk production sign off.
  • To create and maintain product specifications in conjunction with Design / Buying Director from initial proto request or mock ups through to complete specification.
  • Responsible for accuracy of specs at all stages of development and production.
  • Expected to generate own ideas and innovation relevant to Brand and products
  • Daily communication with suppliers to advise / answer any specification / production queries to enable production of correct quality garments to agreed time lines.
  • Responsible for all manufacturing development samples - reviewing fit, style, materials and quality to design brief in conjunction with Design / Product management.
  • To monitor quality in the production of prototypes and bulk production through supplier visits, quality audits, sealed sampling process and random in house quality checks to ensure agreed product specification standards are met.
  • Carry out Quality Control checks on product deliveries in accordance with ISO procedures
  • To pursue claims with suppliers in conjunction with purchasing manager for non-conformity of products to specification.
  • Responsible for management of sampling process to agreed time lines for each season in liaison with Design and Buying teams.
  • Responsible for liaising with Buying team and Design team to ensure Sampling and Production roles and deadlines are both met in a timely fashion.
  • Working closely with Commercial Director and Design to review product costing and ensure products meet expected costing.
  • Liaise with Product Management to ensure prototypes are tested by appropriate testers and feedback validated and implemented.
  • Working with returns personnel to monitor / review and to advise on technical info when required.
  • Manage Assistant Technologist on a day to day basis to assist in development of own products and those of the wider team.
  • Carry out appraisals of Assistant Technologist in cooperation with HODD and provide support ot ensure objetives are met and development of the individual takes place.
  • To behave as a good ambassador for the Mountain Equipment brand at all times.
  • To ensure that all ISO procedures associated with this job are done in line with documentation and any changes are managed according to ISO requirements.
  • To keep company property e.g. phones, laptops, cars securely in good condition and functioning properly.
  • To take responsibility for contributing to own training and development.
  • To carry out any other job related duties, which may be requested from time to time by senior staff.
