New Jöttnar base layer sets high standard

Completing the launch of its 2015 range, technical mountain clothing specialist Jöttnar, has introduced Uller - the first blended yak wool base layer designed for mountaineering, winter climbing and all-mountain skiing.

Uller is constructed from a unique blend of yak wool and synthetic fibres to provide effective temperature regulation and combines the best qualities of both natural and synthetic fibres limiting the build-up of bacteria and unpleasant odours, while also holding its shape for longer and providing greater strength than 100% woollen garments.

Tommy Kelly, Jöttnar co-founder, said: "Uller was designed specifically for severe conditions, using the exceptional properties inherent in yak wool. Yaks spend their lives at altitude - typically between 4,000 and 5,000m - and have evolved over millennia to survive the brutal conditions common in such places. Yak wool provides greater warmth, superior breathability and more effective moisture transfer than other materials commonly used in base layers. It's also incredibly hard-wearing."

Uller's versatility and attention to detail epitomise the Jöttnar range but the disciplined design is far from spartan.

Kelly added: "Uller is soft to the touch and luxurious to wear offering just the right degree of stretch for active use. Flat locked seams and the soft, stand up collar add comfort while the quarter-venting chest zip increases versatility."

Available to pre-order directly from Jöttnar, Uller will be available in selected retailers from early December.

Join Cavell Nurses' Trust in the Canadian Rockies!

At some point in our lives we all benefit from the amazing work and care of either a nurse, midwife or healthcare assistant. Sometimes, these caring individuals will also need looking after. They may find themselves in a position of financial and emotional hardship through illness, low income or domestic abuse. This is where the Cavell Nurses' Trust can step in to help them through difficult times.

We are looking for 100 individuals to join us for a fundraising week in the Canadian Rockies, filled with a choice of activities to suit you; ranging from rock climbing and mountain biking to kayaking and white water rafting, with the ultimate challenge: an ascent of Mount Edith Cavell! There is something for everyone!

Set yourself the ultimate challenge and join us for the experience of a lifetime!
