Access to the normal route up the west highlands peak of Sgurr an Utha will be complicated until well into next winter by bridge work being carried out on the A830 just west of Glenfinnan.
BEAR Scotland are due to begin replacing the bridge over the Allt an Utha this month. The work, which is expected to take around nine months, involves closing the existing carriageway and diverting traffic across a temporary bridge. Unfortunately there will be no pedestrian footway over this. Additionally the layby just west of the bridge, the usual parking place for the standard route up the hill, will be closed for the duration, and no substitute has been found.
For now the best way up Sgurr an Utha may be a longer, tougher climb from Glenfinnan village.
