According to the event website: '10 Peaks events work on a very straight forward principle – we find the most challenging mountainous locations in the UK and plot an ultra distance length route through them, with mandatory checkpoints on the highest 10 peaks in the area. It is then down to you to navigate yourself from the start to the finish, taking in the 10 peaks in a set order (plus additional mandatory checkpoints and feed stations), within the 24 hour time limit. The routes are definitely not designed to be easy and you can guarantee that they will be navigationally challenging.'

The ten peaks in question are: Fan Fawr (734m); Fan Llia (632m); Fan Brycheiniog (802m); Bannau Sir Gaer (749m); Fan Gyhirych (725m); Fan Nedd (663m); Fan Frynych (629m); Pen y Fan (886m); Cribyn (795m) and Fan y Big (719m)

Competitors on the long course have their work cut out for them with 89km and 4800m ascent; the shorter course is a 'mere' 58km and 3000m.
