The annual Barmouth Walking Festival takes place 13-22 September. Due to the increasing popularity of the event, organisers are laying on more than 30 guided walks this year.

Held every September, this well established festival centres on the gorgeous Mawddach estuary on Wales' west coast, and takes in some of the finest hills in southern Snowdonia.

The organised walks programme has something for people of all abilities, from short valley strolls of about 5 hours to full days out on local summits such as Cadair Idris and Arenig Fawr.

Pride of place probably goes to the epic 17 mile 'super walk' from Barmouth to Llanbedr. This is 'not for the faint hearted', say organisers, and 'very demanding both mentally and physically'. The route takes on the Rhinogydd, a range renowned for its tough terrain, and includes four major peaks: Diffwys, Y Llethr, Rhinog Fach and Rhinog Fawr.

The cost per walk looks very reasonable, a maximum of £10 per person (pre-booking blocks of days ends up cheaper).
