After the latest incident on Sunday 26th Feb, Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team took to Facebook:

"In the last week the team have been called out three times to locate missing walkers in the Upper Esk area" they said.

"This morning [Sunday], we were asked to assist Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team to locate three walkers who had been reported missing after setting off to climb Scafell Pike yesterday [Saturday] afternoon. They were located less than 1km from the previous two groups in what has now become known as the Scafell Bermuda Triangle."

This follows an incident on 21st Feb when a couple were found in the area - one of the most remote spots in Cumbria - after a major search involving seven teams and a Coastguard helicopter. The pair were eventually found exhausted after an unp-lanned night out in awful weather, having spent 14 hours in a plastic bivy bag.

Rescuers said their bivvy bag may have saved their lives.
