Persons unknown have damaged a communication device used by Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team to coordinate operations. The team, whose patch covers part of the Peak District, say that loss of the equipment could interfere with communication between team members and delay rescue times. The bill to replace the radio repeater and its stolen battery could be as much as £2000.

The incident, reported yesterday on the team's Facebook page, comes not long after a break-in at Aberdeen MRT's Glen Derry rescue post (see UKH news here), and the ransacking last month of the Wasdale team's stretcher box on Mickledore (see here).

'We are still responding to call outs but depending on the emergency scenario and location we may need in some instances to alter our rescue strategy to best deal with the situation until the device is reinstated' say Woodhead MRT.

Members of the amateur radio community have offered their help.

  • The team's annual Grin n Bear it fundraiser, a popular 25km fell race around the local hills, takes place 31st October. For details see here
