Dragon's Back Race - Half Have Dropped Out!

Wednesday, the third and longest stage of the five-day Berghaus Dragon's Back Race, proved too much for many competitors. By the end of the 68km leg heading south from Snowdonia over Punlumon, around 25 runners had dropped out of the event. Now only half of the original entrants are still in the running.

At the front of the pack Jim Mann (25:01 hrs) continued to run strongly and extended his overnight lead, now at over 90 minutes. Second placed Jasmin Paris (26:36) is herself almost an hour ahead of Konrad Rawlik (27:24) in third.

Many of the women ran very well on day three, and there are now six in the top 20.

'It was all about staying in one piece today, as two days is still a long time to get through' said Jasmine Paris.

'If you’ve got the energy left, then you can put in a challenge or try and push yourself harder in those last two days, but I think that today was a little bit more about conservation.'

Today's fourth stage got underway at 6am. The epic 300km journey down the mountainous length of Wales is due to conclude tomorrow.
