West Highland Way Upgrade Completed

Forestry Commission Scotland has recently finished path work along the West Highland Way at Loch Lomond-side.

The £230,000 repair work concentrated on eroded sections of path near the Commission’s Sallochy campsite, and also included general work to improve drainage and surface quality on other sections.

The West Highland Way upgrade is part of a larger £750,000 programme to revamp paths on the national forest estate within the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.

Will Huckerby, the Commission’s Communities, Recreation and Tourism manager said:

'Thousands of people walk these paths every year, either enjoying them in their own right, as part of a stay at our Sallochy campsite or as part of a longer haul trek along the whole West Highland Way.'

'That level of footfall can cause a fair bit of damage and if the experience is to keep its magic, it’s important that we keep the trails in good condition. We want walkers enjoying these sections to experience the magnificent views of the stunning landscape and not have to spend their time watching where they place their feet.'

Work was carried out avoiding peak periods of path use to minimise any risk to visitors.
