A new summer bus service has expanded the public transport options for walkers heading to Perthshire's southeast Highlands, bringing several classic hills into the range of car-free travel.

Running until October 20th, the Ring of Breadalbane Explorer takes a circular route linking Crieff, Comrie, Lochearnhead, Killin and Aberfeldy and running through the hill passes of Glen Ogle and the Sma' Glen. Buses go both clockwise and anti-clockwise, with three services each way every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (morning, mid day and mid afternoon). There's a connecting service to/from Perth at the start and end of the day.

Buses can be hailed wherever it's safe to stop, and they each have space for six bikes - which travel for free.

Hills potentially opened up by the Explorer include the Ben Lawers group, Meall nan Tarmachan , Ben Chonzie , Ben Vorlich (with a bit of a walk from Lochearnhead), Creag Mac Ranaich and Meall an t-Seallaidh . Factor in a bike and the possibilities increase.
