The remote public payphone at Derry Lodge in the Cairngorms (grid ref NO041934) will be removed by BT from 27 September 2012 - a fact worth bearing in mind if you ever find yourself needing help there in the future.
Use of this phone has dwindled over the years as mobile phones have become more widespread, say the Braemar Mountain Rescue Association, which funds the payphone and line rental. In any case the line has deteriorated and is frequently out of service. In the light of this they have decided to terminate the account. The next-nearest public phone is in Inverey.
