Ridge in the Beacons 6 hrs, 10.91 miles (1.82 mile/hr, 33:01 per mile) Beautiful day, panoramas from top peaks were stunning. Start of path very well signed in the car park of the show caves @ glyntawe. Gentle climb up a grassy bridleway through windswept uplands dotted with shakeholes. Path becomes less well defined as the trail continues but this only adds to the wilderness feel and nav should be easy in all but the worst conditions. Several small streams are forded with ease, before walking off-path on a bearing directly north along a line of rocks towards Waun Lefrith. Looking back south along your route, there is a stunning vista with Cardiff bay visible on a clear day. At Waun Lefrith the Beacons way is joined and a very well maintained path leads along a series of bluffs oabove Llyn y Fan Fach offering superb views both north and south. Panoramic views can be obtained from the peaks of Fan Foel or Fan Brycheiniog, before the beacons way descends a paved stair to the tarn of Llyn y Fan Fawr. The route concludes with a 5 km section of boggy ground unmarked on the ground but easily navigated by keeping the ridge on your right. The beacons way eventually becomes apparent again as you enter a small region of famrland before the A4067 and the end of the walk.
