Crag features

Agujas Rojas is a collection of red towers, in a woodland setting, on a secluded hillside just north of the town of Onil. The walls here offer about 40 routes for face-climbing enthusiasts; all are well-bolted and generally on good quality rock. Most of the routes are in the high 6s and 7s with only a small selection of easier routes. The approach is easy, being only minutes from the parking, and the crag can be combine with a visit to Reconco, or just used as a place to escape the crowds or the heat early in the day.

Although there are some south and some north-facing routes, most of the main faces are tipped towards the west. The sparse tree cover offers some shelter from the sun and the wind however there is not much climbing on offer here in the rain. The position of the cliff, on the edge of the valley, means it is often breezier than you might be expecting. The crag is quick-drying, as the towers take little in the way of drainage.

Approach notes

From the coast, leave the AP-7 which is initially signed to 'San Vicente' and then 'Alcoi' and take the CV-80 towards Castalla. As you pass Castalla follow signs off the motorway to Onil. Continue towards Onil and turn right (towards 'Banyeres') on a roundabout just before the town. Follow this out of the town and locate a small road that branches off on a bend signed to 'Cami Penyes Roges'. Go up this for about 1.3km, past a pink house (El Pan Sucre) on the left. The crags are visible just above from the road. Park just beyond the cliff at a small gravelled shoulder just off the road and within sight of the crag. There are several paths leading from the road up through the woods to the crags. Leave nothing in the car.

No Access Issues

No climbing here March to May inclusive because of nesting birds.

If anyone finds this crag, could you please e-mail with some directions....Spent 2 hours trying to find it (Found the turning by the pylon and the pink house). Would love to know where we went wrong.
