Stickle Tarn looking over Langdale (From Jakes Rake) © Mackie

Crag features

A small crag offering some easy climbs. The rock is generally good but rather broken, and the sense of exposure is slight. A good crag to ascend en route to Pavey Ark. Sees less traffic than those nearer the road.

Approach notes

Approach via Stickle Gill, the crag is on the right just below the tarn.  The best route for access is as follows: from the footbridge (Miller Bridge) some 500m from NDG National Trust car park, continue upstream crossing a rocky gill entering from the right. The path then climbs more steeply through a clump of trees. When the path levels out again, and just before a smaller side gill enters from your right, take a small path, which is paved at the start, and zig zags up the east side of the main Stickle Gill. After this path crosses a small gill, it steepens, coming quite close to the crag. Best to keep to the path till you have passed most of the crag and double back to the foot of Route 2. If you have an up-to-date version of the 1:25,000 map, you will see this route is the only one shown in green (legal right of way) ascending Stickle Gill.
