Asolo Elbrus GV Gear News

Asolo's manufacturing expertise enables them to embrace new materials and technologies that result in a modern and innovative approach to footwear design and function. Within the Alpine category, this is particularly important as reliability, protection and performance are critical to the mountaineers and climbers using their footwear to reach the worlds summits. The Alpine category continues to be the focus for many of Asolo's most influential and exciting product innnovations; an entry point for cutting edge technologies that later filter down into other categories.

This season Asolo introduce the 'Dual Integrated System' within the sole units of their newest Alpine styles (Piolet GV and Elbrus GV). Visible within the heel area, 'DIS' refers to the two layers of lightweight, modern materials co-injected together. The upper layer is thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that offers long-lasting stability, support and secure crampon attachment, and below this, low-density polyurethane (PU) provides optimal shock absorption. A dual-density rubber, microporous midsole cushions through the remainder of the sole unit.

Named after the highest mountain in the Caucasus range, the Elbrus GV is a modern mountain boot for classic mountaineering, hard trekking and via ferrata.

The boldly coloured Elbrus GV is built with weight-saving, performance enhancing materials that give form to a lightweight, supportive boot. It features Asolo's new 'Dual Integrated System' outsole; 2 layers of modern materials expertly combined to achieve a high level of cushioning, durability and support at a reduced weight. It's semi-automatic/ newmatic crampon compatible and weighs just 800g (per half pair/ UK size 8).

The breathable, water reistant suede upper (1.6mm-1.8mm) is lined with Gore-Tex® Performance to keep feet dry. The ankle cuff and tongue are made from durable Schoeller soft shell for a close, flexible fit that keeps dirt and debris out, whilst a full rubber rand and toe cap protects against abrasion and minor impacts. The top-to-toe Derby lacing system is lightweight and creates a secure, precise fit crucial for confident foot placement on uneven terrain. The Asolo/ Vibram Ascent®outsole provides excellent traction on loose, difficult terrain and holds firm whilst braking on descents with heavy packs.

Can these be used for ice climbing?
9 Nov, 2016
I wondered that too, although most brands make their stiffest boots with a groove for a toe bail (for step-in crampons) which these ones miss. Look nice boot though.

Says semi automatic crampons...

Yep, bet they'd be nice to climb in as well with some decent newmatic type binding crampons.
