Vertebrate Publishing has released two new guidebooks to help you get the most out of your Alpine climbing this summer. The books – Mountaineering in the Mont Blanc Range and Mountaineering in the Écrins Massif – offer an expertly curated selection of the most beautiful snow, rock and mixed climbs in both areas.

Mountaineering in the Mont Blanc Range

Click image to view inside    Thirty-six of the most beautiful lower grade snow, ice and mixed climbs (F to AD+) in the seemingly inexhaustible Mont Blanc Range. Reflecting all recent changes in topographical conditions due to glacial retreat, the guide includes: Whymper Route on the Aiguille d’Argentière; Cosmiques Ridge of the Aiguille du Midi; Normal Route, Contamine-Grisolle and Chèré Couloir on the Mont Blanc du Tacul; plus a great selection of routes on Mont Blanc itself.

Each entry features a comprehensive route description, a detailed sketch map and a route summary describing
the start point, difficulty, timings, height gain, best time of year and necessary gear. Superb photos show both
the lie of the land and the haunting beauty of the Mont Blanc Range’s peaks.

The entries contain all the necessary information you’ll need to plan your climb, including comprehensive route descriptions and detailed sketch maps. The majority of routes featured sit at the crossover between hiking and technical alpinism, and will guide you off the beaten track to delight in the unparalleled delights of the high mountains.

The Ecrins Massif book is a translation of the 2006 Alpinisme Facile dans le massif des Ecrins. I'm happy to have the new English version as although I speak French when I was using the original version last year I struggled with the technical French vocabulary.
